I recently came across few articles as well as heated discussions with a history teacher who happens to be very religious person.
He told me that Mahabharata is a history book and Bhagavad Gita is a divine book. All things mentioned in Mahabharata happened in reality so God (Krishna) existed in real and Lord Krishna narrated Hindu’s divine book called Bhagavad Gita at war time.
Since, these books are very popular and holy for world’s 3rd largest religion(Hindu), these kind of claims forced me to read Mahabharata and evaluate its facts to know if its historical book or mythical book or …..
Let’s take out of paper and calculator and do some simple maths –
- As per book, Mahabharata is having story of just one king and his family. There was some dispute is family so they fought a battle at a place called “Kurukshetra” for 18 days. In 18 days, an army 18 “Akshohini” died.
As per book itself,
1 “Akshohini” = 21,870 chariots + 21,870 elephants + 65,610 horses + 109,350 foot soldiers
Let’s assume that at least 2 people were on each 21,870 chariots = 43,740
At least 2 people were sitting on each elephants = 43,740
And one each on every horse = 65,610
If we add these numbers, it reaches to 371,790 number of soldiers + animals
There were total 18 units like that so the final figure comes to 3,71,790 x 18
(21,870 elephants + 65,610 horse + 65,610 horse riders + 109,350 foot soldiers) = 66,92,220
As per claims, this battle happened around 1000 BCE (means 3000 years back). At that time human not invented any WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction). Battle was fought by hands + sword + bow-arrows + few other ancient weapons
Is it possible to kill over six million (66,92,220 people + animals) in just a short span of 18 days (with just 8 hours of fight per day – no night fighting)? Think about population figures 3000 years back.
Also take in consideration of eating/sleeping difficulties of such a huge army.
Let’s stick to maths only and examine other facts (biology, physics and chemistry aspects later)
King Sushbindu was having 1 lac queens (1,00,000) and every queen gave birth to 1 thousand sons (1000) so King was having total 10 crores sons (10,00,00,000)
Now king donated all his sons to 10 crore priests (10,00,00,000) plus 100 chariots + 100 elephants to each priest.
- Another king was doing something more bizarre – The king used to donate 1,60,000 cows + 10,000 horse + 10,0000 gold coins every morning for 100 years.
So finally each priest got 1 son + 100 chariots + 100 elephants, which means
10,00,00,000 x 100 = Ten Billion Elephants possible 3000 years back?
10,00,00,000 x 100 = Ten Billion Chariots possible 3000 years back?
Is there any proof that world population was more than 1(king) + 1,00,000 (queens) + 10,00,00,000 (sons) + 10,00,00,000 (priests) = 20,01,00,001 humans existed on this earth 3000 years back?
It means he donated a total of –
Cows = 1,60,000 x 365 x 100 = 5,84,00,00,000 (don’t blink, its more than “five billion” cows)
Horses = 1000 x 365 x 100 = 3,65,00,000
gold coins = 100000 x 365 x 100 = 36,50,00,0000 (around 4 billion gold coin even if we assume each coin was just 10 gram it comes out forty million kilogram of gold for coins only, what about other usage?)
Now, people can argue that cows and horse cant live for 100 years so final figure is wrong. But even if we take average life of horse and cows were just 10 years, king needed 58,40,00,000 cows every ten years which is not possible as story dates back to 3000 years. Plus, gold was not easily available at that time to make so many coins every year and even if more than 4 billion coins were made on those days, where it disappeared? We are able to find dinosaurs fossils but unable to find these “gold” coins.
The above was pure mathematical analysis. Next time, I will try to analyze it biologically (how a king can give birth to one hundred million or how can he handle one hundred thousand wife or how can you give birth to 100 sons with a single wife – considering human pregnancy time of 9 months or how can you get pregnant by looking at other man akka virgin birth or …..)
